For Mat, architecture, design and craftsmanship runs in the family, and his appreciation for timberwork was nurtured by his grandfather, an architect from New Zealand.

After graduating from Brookvale TAFE in carpentry, Mat focused on establishing his career as a northern beaches builder and carpenter, and trained under a local multi-award-winning master builder.

These early apprentice years instilled in him the importance of undertaking everything properly, correctly and in great detail, with a sharp focus on longevity at every level – from basic timber frame construction to fine fit out.
